Helping youth build coping skills, resilience and positive social networks, Grande Prairie’s Suicide Prevention Resource Centre’s Breakfast Club Youth Program has been having an impact on the community for more than 25 years.
This past year, the Breakfast Club saw youth between the ages of 13-17 attend weekend retreats, while pre-teens ages nine to 12 attended one day workshops, and children aged seven to eight took part in a new pilot of a children’s program thanks in part to funding through the Community Foundation of Northwestern Alberta, Young at Art Fund by T Sedore Photography and the Hannah Ouellette Memorial Supporting Suicide Prevention Resource Centre Fund.
Evaluations of the program noted 97 per cent of teens that took part felt they had learned ways to have safer and more positive relationships and friendships.
