Though staff at local law firm KMSC Law LLP had established a fund with the Community Foundation of Northwestern Alberta back in 2006, the group recently made the move to change the name of the fund in honour of one of their own.
“This is our way of recognizing what she meant to the firm and everyone here,” says Owen Lewis of the fund’s new name, The Terry Ward KMSC Staff Fund.
Known as a fixture in the legal community, Terry was an invaluable employee having worked for more than 60 years as a paralegal. “She was just the type of person who would want to help out, whether it was helping a staff member, helping the lawyers or more importantly the clients, she did an awful lot,” notes Lewis.
“Given that it’s a donor-advised fund and the staff are involved with directing where the funds go they’ll be able to look back and think, where would Terry want these funds to go?” says Lewis. “With our team and so many that adored her wanting to show their support, this was a way to say Terry’s legacy is going to live on, set in the endowment fund that will provide benefit to the community for years to come.”
