The Pirates Fastball Club is dedicated to keeping the spirit of fastball alive in our community. Shayne Milligan and Doug Yates, both local boys, have been involved in the local fastball community for years. Playing together has built lifelong friendships and inspired many to become more involved in community.
With that in mind Doug, Shayne and a group of 12 other community-minded athletes decided to act upon their common vision of building community bonds. They established the Pirates Fastball Club Legacy Fund to keep community spirit alive and well, keep the name and spirit of the Pirates Fastball Club alive and to give back to their community.
The Pirates Fastball Club Legacy Fund is a key player in building our community with grants directed to support programs and community needs as they arise. They will be a part of the 2019 Men’s & Master Men’s Canadian Fast Pitch Championship in Grande Prairie at South Bear Creek Park on August 28 – September 1, 2019.
Author Margaret Wheatley’s assertion that “Whatever the problem, community is the answer,” sums up the work of the Community Foundation. The most creative and lasting solutions to enhance community well-being depend upon people who unite around a common vision—a vision to work together on initiatives that make solutions a reality.
It is an honour to work with the Pirates in connecting them to people, building our community, for good, forever.
You can make a difference in our community – not only for today but forever. When you make a donation to the Pirates Fastball Club Legacy Fund, we invest that gift into a permanent endowment fund and the original gift is never spent. Earnings from your gift are distributed to keep community spirit alive and well, keep the name and spirit of the Pirates Fastball Club alive and to give back to their community. Donations can be made online here – https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/42375 or by calling the Community Foundation at (780) 538-2820.
