Paul had a passion for both photography and community. For years, his vibrant smile and collection of cameras was seen at every major event in the area.
Paul was happiest behind a camera, capturing moments in people’s lives and our community brought him true joy.
For many years, almost immediately after attending a community event his photos would appear in the window of Panda’s Cameras. Anyone strolling by was more than welcome to come in and talk about the event, or photography in general.
Paul was a truly beloved member of our community. From participating in the Grande Prairie Photography Club, to volunteering his time, his presence was felt around our area, touching many lives through his art.
When Paul passed away suddenly in February 2014 at the age of 70 , as a token of respect and affection, The Grande Prairie Photography Club, and Paul’s Family and Friends established a student award fund in his name; providing funding to visual arts students who share Paul’s passion for both art and community.
While future generations may not get to experience the smiling man loaded with camera’s strolling through local community events; the legacy gift provided ensures that they can still feel his presence supporting our local photographers for generations to come.
You can make a difference in our community – not only for today but forever. When you make a donation to the Paul Pivert Memorial Student Award Fund, we invest that gift into a permanent endowment fund and the original gift is never spent. Earnings from your gift are distributed to visual art students through student awards to share Paul’s passion for both art and community. Donations can be made online here https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/40395 or by calling the Community Foundation at (780) 538-2820.
