NOVEMBER 2016

Imagine a community . . . . Where you know your neighbors and feel connected.

Imagine a community built on the spirit of giving, where everyone works together to make things happen.  A community where people invest in future generations and help serve immediate community needs.   A community invested in forever.

20 years ago a group of caring and dedicated citizens with a vision pledged to start this Community Foundation for the people of Northwestern Alberta.  These visionaries saw the need to build an organization focused on solidifying all areas of community, ultimately strengthening the place each of us calls home. The seed was planted.  The community’s philanthropic savings account was started.

Citizens of the area started to create legacies with the creation of endowment funds.  Giving is an act of community.  For the past 20 years, citizens of our region have been giving to the endowment funds held at the Foundation.

Donors and the community have entrusted our current Board of Directors and prior Boards to continue to follow in their path in working hard to build these funds and to carefully manage the assets with a goal of investing grants back into all areas of community.  This is no easy task.    We are honoured to follow in the steps of these past Board members and Chair’s.   Our “Investing in Community Granting Ceremony” is an important event for our community.  Due to the dedication of so many, we are able to celebrate their vision of 20 years of building and support of the region.  Our granting celebration is a testimonial of people coming together.  It is the product of our staff, board members and volunteers who focus on the work of the Foundation, building upon our reputation of excellence.

We partner with our fund holders and donors to support the community and causes they care about, and we invest in numerous innovative charitable projects – large and small – in all areas of community.

“We are very proud to be fund holders to see the incredible work the Foundation is doing in the region.  We see our dollars, local dollars, making an impact and truly moving the needle on change.”  Words from a  Fund holder

The very core of our Foundation is our staff who work hard throughout the year toward the Investing in Community granting awards.  Heather Coney, Resource Development Coordinator and Lindsey McNeil, Executive Assistant.   Thank you for your dedication and commitment.  Thank you as well to our dedicated Board of Directors your vision and passion are evident in the work you do for the Foundation.

Please feel free to contact me at 780-538-2820 to discuss how you can partner with the Community Foundation of Northwestern Alberta and how you can impact and inspire others in your community.

Connect people. Build community. For good, and forever.

Warmest Wishes,

Investing in Community Grant Celebration 2016

Investing in Community 2016

December 7, 2016 was a very special day for the Community Foundation, for charities and for post-seconeary students in our region.

The Community Foundation of Northwestern Alberta is proud to come together in celebration for the presentations to announce the 2016 community impact grants and student award recipients.

The very act of Giving . . . Is an act of community.

We believe the challenges that confront us can be solved — not by one person alone — but by a community. We are all about bringing people together to make an impact. We ARE Community Inspired. We recognize that communities are complex and that collaboration between multiple stakeholders is needed to help everyone thrive and evolve.

Every year we fund numerous innovative projects throughout Northwestern Alberta – large and small – in areas such as arts and culture, education, children and youth issues, environment, recreation, community health, and social development. Our goal is to support projects that create meaningful and lasting impact in our communities..

Our December 7th “Investing in Community Celebration” is a testimonial of people coming together. It’s also the product of our staff, board members and volunteers who focus on the work of the Foundation, building upon our reputation of excellence.

As a result of the trust and relationships with our friends, donors and supporters, we were proud to have disbursed just over $131,000 in grants to 32 charitable community organizations, as well as $29,670 invested to support 38 local post-secondary students, our community citizens and future leaders.

This brings our investment back into the community to $4.46 million. Each and every year we see this community savings account grow . . . and the investment back into our region grows along with it.   Our goal is to shift the needle for change every year impacting another charitable group, another business, another student and another commuinity; empowering change from the inside out.

Find out more about our post-seconary student grants and community impact grants on our webpage or call our office at 780 538 2820, and let’s talk community!

Warmest Wishes Holiday Greeting 2016

One of our greatest joys of the Holiday Season is the opportunity to say Thank You and wish you a New Year filled with peace, joy, the gift of friends and community.

From everyone here at the Community Foundation of Northwestern Alberta and our Board of Directors . . . we say Thank you for your dedication.

“Thankfulness is the beginning of gratitude. Gratitude is the completion of thankfulness. Thankfulness may consist merely of words . . . But Gratitude is shown in acts.”   – Henri Frederic Amiel
