Nourish the North Event Ending as Community Foundation Focuses on Future

Grande Prairie, AB – The Community Foundation is putting all efforts into reaching their goal of raising $10 million in endowments, gifts and pledges, and will be discontinuing their Nourish the North event. The September event will not be taking place, allowing the organization to focus on their goals while also giving more opportunity for other community events to succeed.

The Community Foundation’s impactful event, Invest Northwest is set for December 5. Invest Northwest is an evening to celebrate recipients of student awards and community impact grants for critical services and projects throughout the region. Last year $168,010 was given to deserving students and community groups.

While Nourish the North was successful in raising the profile of the Foundation while also raising funds, the organization must focus staff and Board resources on their overall mission. Ending the event will see other community organizations have more successful events, which also meets the Community Foundation’s mission.

The Community Foundation is extremely thankful for the tremendous support of Nourish the North, with special thanks to those who sponsored, donated or attended the event.

  • “The support for this event has been incredible, from sponsors to those attending and donating. We thank them very much for their years of supporting Nourish the North.”
  • “While the event was a successful fundraiser, when we looked at the staff resources dedicated, they were pulled away from our focus areas.”
  • “Our focus is on building tomorrow, today, through endowments, gifts and pledges, with an aim to raise $10 million by 2020.”
    • Tracey Vavrek, CEO, Community Foundation of Northwestern Alberta
