Compassion. It’s the key word used by families whose loved one has spent their final days at the Grande Prairie Hospice.
“I felt welcome and kindness from the moment we all walked through the front door,” says one family member. “Carol, Grande Prairie Palliative Care Society (GPPCS) navigator, met our family at the door, introduced herself and explained her role as navigator while we were there…Carol provided us with such compassion, love and tender kindness.
A pilot project of the GPPCS, the navigation desk for families at the hospice was made available in part thanks to a grant though the Community Foundation of Northwestern Alberta, the Ed Boyce Memorial Fund and the Terry and Darrel Dola Fund.
According to the Journal of Public Health, as mentioned in the 2019 Northwestern Alberta Vital Signs®, an increased sense of comunity belonging is just as important as developing healthcare policies and programs that meet the needs of individuals.
