Leaving a Green Legacy

Since 1979 the Marcotte Family have owned and operated G&M Plumbing and Heating Ltd. G&M is a household name in the area, a business that is well known for being family owned and operated, reputable, and community oriented. The Marcotte Family is proud to call Grande Prairie home, and proud of the successes and growth that the community has achieved.

In 2008 when Gerry Marcotte announced he would be retiring from the family business he and his brothers Allan and Greg decided to do something to give back to the community. They wanted to ensure that Marcotte generations to come continue their community involvement and keep the Marcotte tradition of giving back alive and strong.

With the goal of creating a lasting impact in the community the family decided to partner with the Community Foundation of Northwestern Alberta. The name of the fund was important to the family, they wanted to ensure that future family members would have the ability to contribute to the fund, to own it and grow it to ensure longevity.

Given the nature of the plumbing and heating business, the family felt that a “green” designated fund would be appropriate and benefit not only the recipients but the community at large. One hundred percent of this Field if Interest Fund is targeted to support environmentally friendly projects that could include alternative energy sources, ecological conservation and clean water and or recycling efforts.

Last year, through the Community Foundation of Northwestern Alberta’s Community Impact grants the Marcotte family was able to continue their community legacy by supporting the Grande Prairie Public School District #2357 Foundation’s environmental and recycling initiatives at Crystal Park School.

The Marcotte family, though their desire to create a lasting environmental legacy helped Crystal Park School’s staff and students learn the importance of composting and recycling as well as provided the schools with green house supplies for student’s grades kindergarten to grade 6.

The Marcotte Family, in partnership with the Community Foundation of Northwestern Alberta are working toward creating a greener, more sustainable Peace Region for generations to come.
