Committed to working to expand the opportunities for art, culture and collaborative projects in the community, the Fairview Fine Arts Centre’s pottery room upgrade is just part of a larger project to update the facility so it can continue to serve as an active hub for creativity and community engagement for the North Peace region.
With the upgrades, the centre has been hosting several events for the community and raising awareness of the opportunities it offers.
“There are people who have been living in Fairview for a number of years and weren’t event aware this facility existed,” says society board member Kim Ruether. “The result is our membership has grown to its highest number in over 30 years.”
A gathering place to learn and enjoy new skills, the Fairview Fine Arts Centre offers painting, pottery, quilting, weaving, wool spinning, an all occasion greeting card club, XYZ courses that include multiple generations, dream catcher courses and a wood carving course.
“Art in all forms is important for a person’s peace of mind,” says Ruether.
Open to all ages, the centre also has an Artists at School program which involves students from the two local schools as well as home-schooled children in the community and introduces them to painting, drawing, fibre arts and pottery.
“The program starts with Grade 3 children coming to paint banners, which are then hung up throughout the town,” explains Ruether. “This is a program that gets kids excited about the arts and all it has to offer.”
Looking to the future, the Fairview Fine Arts Centre Society is looking to make the facility more energy efficient as well as continuing to grow its membership and expand its ability to offer new and exciting art programs.
“The Fairview Fine Arts Centre is dedicated to enriching and connecting our community through collaboration, expanded programming and community events,” says Kim Ruether. “We are a charitable organization so we are constantly fundraising to stay alive. Without the help of the Community Foundation, I feel our hopes and dreams for the future would grind to a halt.”
With the help of generous donors such as the Frank and Agnes Lovsin Legacy Fund, the Community Foundation is honored to be able to support the Fairview Fine Arts Society. The greater sense of belonging that this organization creates is tremendous. There is something for all demographics at the Centre which creates an environment that is warm and inclusive to all. The Community Foundation strives to make our region a stronger place and with the Fairview Fine Arts Society, we are succeeding.
