Charitable Gift Planning

Planned Giving is the thoughtful process of realizing your philanthropic objectives while optimizing your tax and other financial benefits. A planned gift may be outright, providing resources for immediate use, or it may be deferred, planned now for completion at a future time.

A Planned Gift:

  • considers your personal & family needs
  • allows you to carefully plan the impact of your gift now and for future generations
  • is tailored to your financial situation
  • can be made from your assets or current income
  • maximizes your tax, financial and estate planning benefits
  • is a tangible expression of the values you embrace throughout your life

Gifts Today

Cash: A gift of cash or cash equivalents (RRSPs, T-Bills, GICs) of any size may be made to any existing fund.

Gifts of Publicly Traded Securities: A gift of publicly traded securities transfers ownership of stocks or bonds to the Foundation. Only 25% of the capital gain of these shares is taxable and you receive a tax receipt for the full market value of the securities.

Real Estate: A gift of Real Estate will result in a donation receipt for the fair market value of any property.

Life Insurance: A gift of life insurance can be a significant future gift at an affordable present cost. By making the Foundation the owner and beneficiary of your policy you receive a donation receipt for the policy’s cash value.

Wills & Charitable Bequests: A bequest in your will may specify a sum of money, an asset, or a portion of your estate, to be donated to The Community Foundation of Greater Grande Prairie. Your bequest may be used to establish a new fund or be added to an existing Foundation fund by you or your family.

Life Insurance: By making The Community Foundation of Greater Grande Prairie the beneficiary, not the owner of the policy, you can provide a future gift while retaining control of your policy. RRSPs & RRIFs: Excellent charitable gifts as the charitable tax credit will offset the tax otherwise payable upon distribution.

Charitable Remainder Trust: A charitable remainder trust is a trust that pays income to one or more individuals for life. The capital is then paid to the Foundation for distribution to one or more charities named by the donor. By creating a charitable remainder trust the donor realizes important income tax savings at the time of the gift.

Gifts of Residual Interest: A gift that allows you to make a gift of real estate, get a donation receipt for the net present value, and retain the use of that property during your lifetime.
