About the Foundation

In 1996, the Community Foundation of Greater Grande Prairie was established to secure the long-term economic health of the people and organizations of Greater Grande Prairie Area. We call our plan “building tomorrow …..today.”

In less than a decade, we have contributed $3.3 Million to the benefit of our community. In 2004, the Community Foundation touched the lives of many by contributing to 41 local groups by investing over $108,560 in Grande Prairie and area community projects and programs.

At the Foundation we help donors invest in the long-term stability and well-being of our community. The Foundation exists to help donors create permanent endowment funds to support charitable causes and charities important to them……building tomorrow…today.

Our Vision

The Community Foundation of Greater Grande Prairie brings donors and charities together to enrich the whole community.

Donors may create a legacy of support for:

• the community as a whole
• a particular area of interest (examples include: arts, social services, education, health, environment, recreation, etc.)
• a specific charity
• a range of charities

Donations to the Foundation are invested for long-term growth and will support charitable activities virtually forever.  From the income earned, our goal is to distribute 3.5% of the value of each endowment fund for charitable activities, 2% is used to cover administrative costs (including custodian and investment council fees), and any remaining income is reinvested in the fund.

The Community Foundation of Greater Grande Prairie is a member of the Community Foundations of Canada.  Our Board has adopted the  Code of Ethical Fundraising and Financial Accountability from the Canadian Centre for Philanthropy.  The Board has also approved a Privacy Policy that ensures compliance with federal and provincial legislation.
